After his call to the bar of Ontario on Sept. 20, 1911, Patrick Kerwin settled in Guelph where he spent the next 21 years of his professional life in private practice. He formed a partnership with Donald and Hugh Guthrie. Judge Patrick Kerwin's career on the highest bench spanned four decades, for a total of 27 years (July 22, 1935 to his death on Feb. 2, 1963), the last third of which he spent as Canada's tenth Chief Justice.
